Nutanix .NEXT 2026 Highlights

  • Post category:Blog

There’s no shortage of announcements at events like Nutanix .NEXT Conference, however, only a few stand out not because they sound good on stage, but because they solve real problems customers are dealing with today.

This year, the theme was clear:
Simplify operations, reduce cost and give customers flexibility back.

Did you know there were 39 announcements during the conference?
Below are my favorite announcements from the conference in no specific order:

1. AVD + Nerdio Integration: Bringing VDI Back

Azure Virtual Desktop + Nerdio + Nutanix. This one stood out immediately.

For years, VDI has been a balancing act between:

  • Cost control
  • Performance
  • Operational complexity

Now imagine:

  • Running AVD on-prem with Nutanix
  • Using Azure for burst capacity or DR
  • Managing it all through Nerdio automation

Why it matters:

  • Reduces cloud cost unpredictability
  • Gives IT control back over performance
  • Enables hybrid VDI strategies without compromise

This is the kind of flexibility customers have been asking for to reduce their OPex and bring some workloads back on-prem.

2. Nutanix Enterprise AI (NAI): AI Without the Guesswork

Nutanix Enterprise AI (NAI) might be one of the most practical AI announcements we’ve seen in a while and even though it’s not net new offering, seeing the demos on-stage truly allowed me to connect the dots why this is huge.

Let’s be honest, most organizations are stuck at:

  • We need an AI strategy…
  • But don’t know where to start
  • Or how to control cost, data and models

NAI changes that by offering:

  • A simplified AI platform
  • Support for multiple models and GPUs (Nvidia and AMD)
  • Control over data locality and cost (cost per token)

Why it matters:

  • Lowers the barrier to entry for AI
  • Prevents “runaway cloud AI spend”
  • Keeps data where it belongs

This isn’t about hype. It’s about giving organizations a starting point that actually makes sense.

3. External Storage Support for NetApp ONTAP Platform

NetApp + Nutanix? That got people talking.

Nutanix expanding support for more external storage partners is a big strategic shift:

  • Customers can now leverage existing investments
  • More flexibility in storage architecture
  • Opens the door for hybrid designs

Why it matters:

  • Not every workload belongs on HCI storage
  • Customers don’t want to rip and replace
  • Choice is finally coming back into the conversation

This is Nutanix acknowledging what customers are asking for and that’s a good thing.
They also announced Lenovo Storage integration, but I am not very familiar with it, nor do I have any clients using it today.

4. Kubernetes + Bare Metal: Sysadmins Meet Platform Engineers

Kubernetes adoption so far has been… let’s call it uneven. Too complex for some and too fragmented for others.

Nutanix is simplifying that with:

  • Easier Kubernetes deployment and lifecycle management
  • Bare metal support (no hypervisor required)

Why it matters:

  • Reduces overhead for cloud-native workloads
  • Aligns traditional IT (sysadmins) with modern platforms (platform engineers)
  • Simplifies operations without sacrificing flexibility

This is where infrastructure and platform teams finally start speaking the same language (or at least start sitting in the same room).

5. Zero-Copy Migrations to AHV

This one is huge for real-world adoption.

With support for:

  • Pure Storage (EverPure)
  • NetApp
  • Dell Technologies

You can now migrate to Nutanix AHV without moving any actual data.

Let that sink in.

Why it matters:

  • Eliminates long migration windows
  • Reduces risk dramatically
  • Accelerates time-to-value

For many customers, this removes one of the biggest barriers to leaving their current platform.

6. Ransomware Protection with NC2 Clean Rooms

Ransomware isn’t a “maybe” anymore, it’s a when.

Nutanix is leaning into this with:

  • Clean room recovery environments
  • Powered by Nutanix Cloud Clusters (NC2) in any cloud (Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • Isolated recovery + validation before restore

Why it matters:

  • Ensures clean recovery points
  • Reduces risk of reinfection
  • Enables DR strategies that actually work under pressure

This is the difference between restoring backups… and having a recovery plan.

7. Nutanix FlexPod: A Validated Modern Stack

Nutanix FlexPod = Cisco + NetApp + Nutanix

This one quietly signals a major shift.

Nutanix running on Cisco infrastructure, integrated with NetApp storage, delivered as a fully validated platform.

Why it matters:

  • Leverages existing Cisco + NetApp investments
  • Adds Nutanix simplicity and operational model
  • Fully validated design across different vendors
  • Introduces more flexibility into traditionally rigid stacks
  • Has been proven in the past already with a different platform (VMware)

This isn’t just integration, it’s a new level of choice for enterprise infrastructure.

My thoughts from this year’s .NEXT?

Walking the show floor felt like a throwback to the golden days of VMworld…
With over 50 sponsors, packed booths and some of that same energy we used to see years ago.
